All’s dust, all’s laughter, all’s nonenitity
From blind unreason, rise all things that shall be
Make merry, heart within me,
Others shall come to birth;
So soon, And I’ll be lying but blackened earth in earth,
Now, thou shouldst know that, Greater by far than thou are the dead Naked i came on earth; naked to earth return:
Why toil in vain, when naked is the end mine eyes discern?
But; Hope springs eternal in the human breast,
Man never is, but always to be blest…
———
Quotes from the “Greek Poetry for Everyman”, by F. L. Lucas…
Die Menschen sollen nicht so viel nachdenken, was sie tun sollen, sie sollen vielmehr bedenken, was sie sind.
“Meister Eckhart”
(I couldn’t find any translations for this, so I’ll try to translate it myself: Men shouldn’t that much think & busy themselves with what they should do, instead they should much more bethink what they are)
